For over a year, the city of Murrieta has been privileged to be the most recent home base for the Patriotic Service Dog Foundation, a nonprofit group that provides service dogs to veterans.

According to a staff report in the Press Enterprise, Foundation president Tom Tackett said that the group moved southeast in February of 2017 from its previous base in Orange to five acres of land in Murrieta. The space allows for a permanent training facility, said Tackett, along with a guesthouse for veterans working with their dogs to stay on-site during training.

The paper noted that “the foundation tries to provide about 12 dogs a year for veterans, who use them to deal with post-traumatic stress disorder and brain injuries.” It quoted Tackett calling the Murrieta facility “peaceful and serene” and “very therapeutic” for the veterans.
