The Murietta Patch reported on the unfortunate death of two senior citizens in Winchester following a head-on car crash along Domenigoni Parkway, east of Winchester Road.

California Highway Patrol Officer Darren Meyer says an 81-year-old Menifee woman was driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla westbound on Domenigoni Parkway while an 82-year-old Hemet man was driving a 2000 Saturn Ion eastbound on the same roadway.

Apparently, the driver of the Saturn swerved left, drove across the dirt center median, and collided directly into the front of the Toyota.

Later, according to the Riverside County News Source, officials determined the two victims were trapped inside the mangled wrecks of the cars, which blocked both lanes of westbound traffic. Both victims had sustained major traumatic injuries and were clinging to life.

The man, Joseph Perry, 82, died at the scene of the crash. The woman, Lorraine Johansen, also 82, was rushed to Menifee Valley Medical Center but died after life-saving efforts were applied. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
